I dont have a tandoor which is normally what you cook naan bread in – but instead I did it the modern way!
Ingredients
500g Strong White Flour
7g Fast active yeast
1 tsp salt
75ml Yogurt
15g melted butter
200-225 ml warm water
Optional butter before serving
In your mixer using the dough hook, add in all the dry indregients, ensure well mixed. Then add in yogurt and melted butter until well combined, slightly bread crumb looking.
Slowly pour in a small amount of warm water until the dough is formed and kneed for a further 3-4 mins.
Cover with oiled cling film and allow to rise for approximately an hour. I use my airing cupboard and nice and warm, once doubled in size should be done.
Preheat oven at 220c and heat grill
Remove from bowl and knock out the air with a quick knead by hand and divid into 6 equal sections.
Roll out the section into a oval shape and place onto a baking tray.
Bake in the oven for 5-6mins until it fluffs up filled with air.
Then remove from the oven into the grill for a 10-30 secs each side until browned.
Smoother with butter and serve!
They were very nice, next time Garlic Naan as requested by my 8yr old!
